1. Aluminum alloy ribbed plate
Common ship materials are carbon steel, alloy steel, cast iron, etc. However, steel is easily corroded by seawater, and has poor plasticity, so it is not easy to be extruded. The strength of aluminum alloy is close to that of steel, but its plasticity exceeds that of steel. It can be processed into profiles of various shapes and cross-sections by extrusion process.



The aluminum alloy plate with profiles made by extrusion process is the ribbed plate.

2. Characteristics of marine 6082 ribbed aluminum profiles

(1) Light weight and high corrosion resistance
Compared with steel, the aluminum alloy ribbed plate is reduced by two-thirds of the weight. Its surface has a dense oxide protective film (also known as passivation film), which is not easy to be corroded by seawater.
(2) High dimensional accuracy of structure
The steel plate must be manually installed and welded, while the aluminum alloy ribbed plate is formed in the extrusion die at one time, and its section is close to the standard plane, and its overall stability is far above that of the steel plate.
(3) Small residual stress
In the installed and welded steel plate, the compressive residual stress reaches 70% of the reference stress. The residual stress in the extruded aluminum alloy ribbed plate is generally less than 20MPa.
